Showcasing how our home ed families continue learning away from Club Time.

Our Code Club Fun Planner for October 2026 was made to support this holistic approach.

And you can get one if you keep reading.

I've made it into a free, printable 2 page PDF, tick-as-you-go planner for home education families like yours. It also shows how our Music STEAM Tech Clubs in Southend-on-Sea and Shoeburyness work with structure without loosing the fun.

Nobody needs to play an instrument. Children explore, listen, code and play, and the music comes from the code they write.

Looks a bit like this one... but its better.

What is the STEAM Code Club planner?

It's a two-page PDF we give parents for home holistic activities with a clear structure:

  • Page 1: the October timetable.

There's a card for every day from Thursday 1 to Friday 16 October. Each has a big friendly icon, a short task and a tick box.

  • Page 2: the Explorer Menu.

It has six activity cards: Code Club with micro:bit, Code AI Music Lab, Mini.Mu Glove, ESP32 Piano, SPOKE Board and a Greetings Electronics Card design. It also has a Spooky Sounds Challenge where children vote for the easiest platform.

It prints on plain white paper, so it's cheap to print and easy to stick on the fridge.

STEAM fun, all week round

The planner turns club learning into a weekly rhythm:

Monday to Wednesday: learning at home (20–30 minutes).

These are short, low-pressure missions that can be done solo, in pairs or with family. For example:

  • Loop It! Make your micro:bit code repeat, then try bigger loops.

  • Sound Explorer. Hunt for high, low, long and short sounds with a partner.

  • Mini.Mu Glove Show. Watch a music-themed Mini.Mu Glove project. How does moving your hand make sound?

Thursday and Friday: hands-on at club.

This is where children get the kit in their hands, with tutors and their group.

  • Thursdays: 1:00–3:00pm

  • Fridays: three sessions, at 10:30am, 1:00pm and 3:00pm, each lasting two hours

Weekends: free play. If your child wants to keep tinkering, they can build on what they started.

  • BBC micro:bit. A pocket-sized computer. Children start by visiting their Code Club dashboard, picking a simple code and expanding it.

  • Mini.Mu Glove. Wearable music tech where hand movement changes the sound. No glove at home? Try an "air glove" move with a partner.

  • ESP32 Piano. Children learn what each part does, then think about how the micro:bit, Arduino or Matrix Bit could code it.

  • Code AI Music Lab. Learn three track tips, find out what a jingle is and have a go at making one. Children can also record their own voice and use it in the mix.

  • SPOKE Board. Meet the board and make a short sound sequence.

  • Greetings Electronics Card. Sketch a card, choose a light or sound to add and plan the circuit. It makes for a thoughtful and personal gift.

This October is packed with creative coding, sound, music, and electronics activities. This two-page STEAM planner helps families see what is happening from Thursday 1 to Friday 16 October, tick off each activity, and choose the projects that fit home or club time.

Great for mixed ages and different learners

Our two groups share one club family: Sanderlings (ages 8–11) and Kingfishers (ages 12–15). Every card has a simple version for everyone. Kingfishers get a "go further" challenge, so siblings can work at the same table.

Children can work solo, in a pair or in a group of four. They learn to code and to collaborate, both of which matter for confidence.

Extending the learning at home- This is a must!

Here are five easy ways to make the planner part of your week:

  1. Pick a regular time. Stick the timetable up and choose a daily 20-minute slot.

  2. Tick it together. The tick boxes give children a visible sense of progress.

  3. Share the sound. Ask your child to play you their code. What did they change?

  4. Take breaks. Short bursts with a snack and a stretch work better than one long session.

  5. Bring it to club. Photos, ideas and unfinished projects are all welcome.

For free coding practice, try the micro:bit MakeCode editor and explore Code Club.

Let's plan for curiosity and confidence

A good planner on your fridge door should feel welcoming and easy to understand even for non academic children. Parents and learners should understand that they do not need special experience to take part and just start.

Remember that your child can join in anytime regardless of experience. Because in our clubs:

  • No music background needed

  • Choose At Home or At Club activities

  • You can Tick off each activity as you go

  • You can Try solo, pair, or group challenges

  • We encourage children to explore coding, sound, AI music, and electronics at your own pace

Before starting your week get orientated. What's the week look like? Easy.

A quick note on our STEAM CLUB CODE dates

The planner runs from Thursday 1 to Friday 16 October 2026. Our clubs pause for half term, so the planner ends on the 16th. Families are welcome to keep exploring at home while they wait.
